Getting Google reviews more easily

Google My Business & short names

Customers will already know that we advise everyone to claim their ‘Google My Business’ page – there are so many good reasons to do so, including:-

  • increase search engine visibility
  • quickly show pertinent information
  • allow customers to leave reviews
  • post updates that quickly appear on Google.

Once Google finds your business it may start to create a listing for you – it is imperative you have control of that listing to ensure your information is correct and that you receive notification of any reviews that may be left for your business.

It is a process you can do yourself by following the steps set out at Google My Business or we can do this for you if you prefer.

Another thing to make sure now is that you have claimed your ‘short name’.
How do I get a short name?

From your computer you can sign in to Google My Business, then select the location you want to create a short name for. From the left hand side menu you can click the “Info” tab and then “Add profile short name.” From there, you can enter your short name with no less than five characters and no more than 32 characters. After applying, your short name will show as “Pending.”  When it’s ready, the short URL will show on your Business Profile.

Here is mine:

Share your short URL with customers for reviews

Sign in to Google My Business.
If you have multiple locations, open the location that you’d like to manage.
In the menu on the left, click Home.
In the ‘Get more reviews’ card, you can copy your short URL to share with customers.

On your mobile device, open the Google My Business app My Business.
Tap Customers and then Reviews.
In the top right, tap Share Share.
Copy your short URL to share with customers.

NB: Customers do need to be logged in to their Google account to leave a review

Here are some other tips once you have your listing

  • Check back frequently, anyone can suggest edits so do keep checking all is correct for your listing
  • Respond to reviews – it helps them stand out and may encourage others to leave them.
  • Write posts to get mini updates on your listing.

We hope this information is of assistance to you. Should you need any help with your Google Listing or your website please do get in touch.
